The Japan Academy of Nursing Science (JANS) was founded in 1981, and has become the leading organization in the field of nursing research and nursing education in Japan. JANS publishes a quarterly journal in Japanese, and a biannual journal in English (Japan Journal of Nursing Science).

JANS will be hosting the World Academy of Nursing Science Academic Conference to be held in Kobe Japan, on September 19 and 20, 2009. Information regarding this conference will become available this October at the following URL.

Dr. Rachel Spector, TCNS Scholars and Past President,  has been selected to receive the ANA Honorary Human Rights Award.   The Transcultural Nursing Society congratulates Dr. Spector on receiving this prestigious award.  The Awards Ceremony will be June 26, 2008 in Washington, DC.

 


 

Dr. Ruth Davidhizar  Dean of the School of Nursing at Bethel College in Mishawaka, Indiana, and Co-author, Dr. Joyce Newman Giger,  Professor and Lulu Wolff Hassenpluf Endowed Chair at UCLA have written a chapter entitled Promoting Culturally-Appropriate Interventions Among Vulnerable Populations in  the 2007 Annual Review of Nursing Research. Ruth has also authored a chapter entitled Active Listening in the 2008 edited  by Ackley and Ladwig in Evidence-Based Nursing Care Guidelines Medical-Surgical Interventions published by Mosby/Elsevier and The Successful Nurse scholar as Interdisciplinary Collaborator and

 Leader in Nurse Author and Editor, Dec., 2007.

Peace Corps Encore! (Encore!), a new nonprofit based in Washington, D.C., is seeking Returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCVs) and former Peace Corps staff for short-term overseas health projects. Encore! is partnering with non-governmental organizations to provide opportunities for people with Peace Corps experience to return to service in projects that have a direct impact on pressing social issues in developing countries. Projects in the health sector may include: hunger and malnutrition, malaria prevention, community health outreach campaigns, HIV/AIDS education, or training for health care professionals.
