🌍 Population Health Course Syllabi and Bibliography
Population Health Course Syllabi and Bibliography
The Population Health Course Syllabi and Bibliography were developed by the Transcultural Nursing Society’s Scholars Education Interest Group (SEIG) to strengthen the integration of population health, social determinants of health, and social justice within transcultural nursing education. Building on the SEIG’s 2023 White Paper, these resources provide faculty and students with academically rigorous, adaptable tools that reflect current expectations in professional nursing education and global health equity initiatives.
Grounded in the AACN Essentials and informed by the World Health Organization’s evidence on social determinants of health, the syllabi offer both a one‑semester course structure and a modular format that can be incorporated into existing curricula. Each syllabus emphasizes culturally competent care, structural influences on health, and the nurse’s role in advocacy, community engagement, and multisectoral collaboration. The accompanying comprehensive bibliography—spanning books, peer‑reviewed articles, policy documents, websites, and multimedia resources—supports faculty in designing evidence‑based learning experiences and provides students with a strong foundation for scholarly inquiry.
These materials are intended as flexible templates. Faculty are encouraged to adapt terminology, examples, policies, and data sources to reflect their institutional context, national frameworks, and the needs of the populations they serve. International members are invited to modify content to align with local health systems, cultural considerations, and regional priorities. SEIG welcomes feedback from educators and practitioners who implement these resources, as shared experiences help strengthen transcultural nursing education worldwide.
