We are deeply honored and humbled to receive the Leininger Award. This recognition is especially meaningful because it affirms the values that have guided our professional lives: respect for culture, commitment to diversity, and the belief that nursing care must honor the lived experiences, beliefs, and practices of the people we serve.
Dr. Madeleine Leininger’s vision of culture care universality and diversity gave language and purpose to what we experienced through teaching, consulting, and learning with nurses and communities around the world. Through those experiences, we came to understand that while the principles of nursing are shared across countries and cultures, the ways in which care is practiced are shaped by history, values, customs, resources, and human relationships.
Receiving this award reminds us that transcultural nursing is not only an academic or professional concept; it is a responsibility. It calls us to listen with humility, to teach with openness, and to care in ways that recognize the dignity of every person. It also challenges us to continue sharing the importance of cultural understanding with colleagues, students, professionals, and communities at the local, national, and international levels.
We accept this honor with gratitude to those who have inspired, taught, and supported us throughout our journey. Most of all, we accept it with renewed commitment to advancing transcultural nursing, promoting cultural diversity in health care, and carrying forward Dr. Leininger’s enduring legacy of culture care for all people.
